Q: Will an automatic sprinkler system use more water than I’m currently using?

A:
Depending on your current water usage, most homeowners will actually conserve water. Our Certified Irrigation Designers at KT Irrigation, will custom design a watering schedule that will keep you from wasting water and prevent runoff from over watering. And, with your Mini-Click Rain Sensor, your system will not run when it rains. A lawn sprinkler system installed by KT Irrigation will allow your water usage to be more cost effective.

Q: Does an automatic sprinkler system really save time?

A: Definitely. You will no longer have to spend your valuable time dragging hose and moving sprinklers. Your KT Irrigation lawn sprinkler system will automatically do all of the watering for you, even when you are out of town. Most systems run overnight and are finished before you even leave the house in the morning. If you live in a county that tends to go on water restrictions during the hot months, an automatic sprinkler system gives you a huge advantage by watering only on the days you are allowed.

Q: Will an automatic sprinkler system water as well as I can water by hand?

A: Our Certified Irrigation Designers with custom design a system that will deliver the right amount of water to your lawn and landscape. This is much more effective than turning on a sprinkler in the morning and letting it run all day while you are at work. Your KT Irrigation representative will schedule your system to provide only the necessary amount of water to your property.

Q: We generally get 40 or more inches of rainfall a year. Do we really need a sprinkler system?

A: If it rained at your house every three days, the exact amount each time, you probably wouldn’t need a sprinkler system. Unfortunately Mother Nature doesn’t work that way. Having a KT Irrigation lawn sprinkler system installed will ensure healthy, lush growth and make certain your lawn and plants receive a regularly timed, evenly measured amount of water. In the dry season when there is little or no rain, your yard can suffer damage after just a few days without water. During periods of rain, your Mini-Clik rain sensor will keep you system from running.

Q: Are there different systems from which to choose?

A: A typical residential irrigation system will be comprised of a Controller (which functions as the brain of the system), Remote Valves (which open and close to release and stop the flow of water to each zone), and Sprinkler Heads (either Spray Heads or Rotors, which distribute the water to a given area). There is typically two different ways of tying into your Main Water Supply. One being in the basement where your Main Water Line comes out of the foundation and the other being outside by the Water Meter. Your KT Irrigation representative can determine which is best for individual property. There is also a wide range of Manufacturers and Parts available in the irrigation industry. It is not necessary for all your parts to be from the same manufacturer. KT Irrigation will design a system using a combination of parts that will provide many years and worry free operation. Our extensive experience allows us to custom design a system based on your individual requirements and budget.

Q: How do I know what type of system is best for me?

A: At KT Irrigation, our Certified sales representatives will discuss your individual options and budget and design a custom system for your specific property. We will consider such factors as water source and pressure, soil type, plant material and weather conditions.

Q: Is it cheaper for me to install my own system?

A: In the long run, it could cost you more money. KT Irrigation will custom design and install a cost-effective, efficient lawn sprinkler system. Our Certified Designers will select the right material and products for your system. We will design your system with Head-to-Head coverage (overlapping patterns that insure proper dispersion of water) and Matched Precipitation (making sure each sprinkler head is producing the same amount of water regardless of its pattern). We are also familiar with all local plumbing and electrical codes, including Backflow Prevention, so you won’t have to worry about costly mistakes in wiring or plumbing. Our professional crews can do the job faster, with less disruption to existing landscaping, and we guarantee our work.

Q: What method do you use to install the underground piping for my system?

A: There are two basic methods of installing irrigation piping in your lawn. We at KT Irrigation use a Vibrator Plow to install our lines. This is a large machine with a hydraulic arm that cuts a slit in your lawn and pulls the pipe down into the ground. As the machine drives forward the pipe is fed behind it. To install the heads, we just dig up the line at each connection point. The other method of installing pipe is to use a Trencher, which is where the earth is removed and then back-filled. This method is more popular on commercial sites or where there is no grass.

Q: Is it difficult to understand or operate the system?

A: Your KT Irrigation representative will help select a Controller for your system, and will set it based on your individual watering needs. We will also give you a general watering schedule and explain how to make adjustments if necessary. A full tutorial of the Controller will be given right after the install. All controllers come with an instruction manual, or you can call us for assistance.
